May Newsletter - Icebreaker POSTPONED

Good evening,

Fingers-crossed that the weather pattern we have been stuck in for weeks will finally break. Everyone here is so, so sick of the rain. We want to provide a few updates about some changes to our schedule along with announcing a slew of other upcoming happenings at the club.

Icebreaker Changes

Unfortunately, we have found it necessary to postpone the Icebreaker one more time. The course simply can’t take 40 foursomes and come out the other side in good condition. We completely understand that the changes to this tournament have been inconvenient, but we don’t want to destroy the course conditions or subject players to miserable weather.

We have made the following decisions to address this with minimal impact on our schedule moving forward.

  1. The Co-Ed Fourball has been cancelled. There will be no reschedule date.

  2. The Icebreaker will be happening on Sunday, May 18th. This was the original date for the Co-Ed Fourball.

Please get in touch with the Pro-Shop, by email or phone call, to let us know if you can accommodate this change.

Needless to say, the course WILL NOT be open tomorrow. The turf is just too saturated.

New League Starting

I am hosting a new league on Fridays called Co-Ed Quota Night. Some members of our Men’s League played in what was basically this exact format last year and had an awesome time closing out the season.

Quota is a format where you play against your own handicap. The computer system takes your current 9-hole handicap and subtracts it from 18. The resulting number is how many points you need to win. You win points by scoring out on the course!

Points are as follows…

Albatross: 16 points

Eagle: 8 points

Birdie: 4 points

Par: 2 points

Bogey: 1 point

Double Bogey or Worse: 0 points

More detail on this scoring will be included on rules sheets provided every week. Rest assured, it’s not as complicated as it seems!

Players are arranged into 4-person teams. We will start the season by accepting all pairing requests to let people get comfortable with the format. As we progress through the season, I will start mixing up teams a little bit so that players can meet other members of the club. If you want to start meeting others right out of the gate, that can be accommodated! We will have slots on the tee sheet blocked out around the same times that are blocked off for Men’s and Ladies Evening Leagues (3:30-5:30).

Entry for this league is $10 per person, per week, cash only. The purse is FULLY distributed every week. The league is open to all, but non-members are subject to our after-4PM greens fee rate and all except for season cart holders are subject to cart fees if you choose to ride. This league is NOT a season-long commitment, you can play or not play on whatever weeks you like.

If you would like to be added to the roster for this event, please get in touch with me on my personal email (jordantayer@gmail.com). Once you have been added to the roster, you can add yourself to any future rounds that you would like to play using the GolfGenius portal.

Post Your Scores

We felt that we needed to put this out there again.

CKCC members are automatically provided with a GHIN card when they join our club. Your GHIN card is used for tracking your official handicap. To qualify for net prizes in any of our tournaments, participants must have an up-to-date handicap. It is not fair to your fellow competitors to have an inaccurate handicap.

To have your handicap considered up to date you not only have an established handicap, but that you have current scores posted. This means you should be regularly posting rounds that you play. The program we use to set up our tournaments has just introduced a compliance tool for handicaps and we will be notifying people who need to start posting scores to qualify for net prizes.

To start posting your scores, download the USGA GHIN app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Log-in using your GHIN number (provided by Cedar Knoll) and post your scores whenever you play a format with your own ball. We also accept handicaps calculated by other programs but need to see proof of score history and current index.

If you struggle with technology, let us know, we can give you a hand setting up the app or getting your scores posted.

Still Seeking Head Chef

We’re still on the hunt for a talented and passionate Head Chef/Kitchen Manager to join our team for the 2025 season and beyond! While we’re fortunate to have Elise leading our kitchen for the upcoming season, it’s only a temporary situation. We’re looking for someone to work alongside her, learn the ropes, and eventually take the helm of our restaurant operations.

This is a unique opportunity to bring your culinary expertise to Cedar Knoll, collaborate with a dedicated team, and create unforgettable dining experiences for our members and guests. If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and be part of a thriving community, we’d love to hear from you!

More information about this position and requirements can be found on our “Jobs” page!

Whew! That was a lot of information. Fingers-crossed for no more rain, we’ve had enough!
